| "Death by Church" - 6/30/2009 |
One of my true "armor bearers" sent this link to be regarding the article below that I thought would be a great follow up to yesterday's HBO. So here it is, enjoy or be miserable- your choice!
“I am convinced that one of the reasons so many people are turned off to the church (including pastors!) is that it all seems to explainable. How many pastors signed up to lead a revolution but are now caught in managing a spiritual business (complete with budgets, payroll, vision statements, and >> Read More |

| Church, Consumerism, and Christiandom - 6/29/2009 |
If there's anything that has all but destroyed the true character of the Church in America, it has to be consumerism and Christiandom! Most church goers treat church like they do the shopping mall- always looking for the best deal that will satisfy their "wants", not so much their needs. This mentality, added to the "Christiandom" factor, that was basically birthed by Constantine when he made Christianity the national religion of the Roman Empire, has significantly robbed the "Church" of it's >> Read More |

| LIFE Groups - 6/25/2009 |
One of the key dynamics of the discipleship process is doing life together with other people who are on the same "becoming more like Jesus" journey. These relationships have the primary purpose of helping to shape and hone the core values, character, and cause of Christ in, and through a person's life. When you get 8-12 people together like that for that primary purpose, not only is it building on the New Testament pattern, but it is enabling the New Testament church to emerge.

| Transformers - 6/24/2009 |
The much hyped Transformers 2 movie came out last night and me and the family are definitely going to see it today. It'll be fun, but it won't be very real! But there are, and needs to be, real, authentic transformers!
These "transformers" are those people who have had a genuine encounter with Jesus Christ, dedicated themselves to following Him, and are determined to live out His cause every day. They've been "transformed by the renewing of their minds" and they "don't follow the pat >> Read More |

| Life on Pause - 6/22/2009 |
I have a DVR and I'm told I can pause live TV! I can be watching a football game that's being played "live", need to get a snack, hit "pause", get my chips, come back, hit "play" and not miss a thing! Amazing! But as we all know, even though I hit the pause button, the game goes on; it's only the recording that pauses...
In our lives, there comes those moments when life, as we've been living it, get's paused! We don't push a button on some universal DVR, instead, something comes alo >> Read More |

| Vacation! - 6/19/2009 |
I'm not sure where the word "vacation" comes from but it may have to do with the idea of vacating something. Actually I looked up the word and it means "the time when an office is vacant or void." So, going on vacation means you leave the "office" or the regular job or routine for a brief time- VACATION!
I used to go on vacation but not really vacate! I didn't really leave the office, I took it with me. That's not a vacation! To truly vacation, vacate, you have to get out and get a >> Read More |

| Going Green - 6/17/2009 |
Going Green is in vogue now that we all believe the planet is doomed if we don't save it from our polluting ways! Actually, going green does have some merit when you consider recycling and cutting down on fuel emissions, etc. will certainly help the environment; and again, that's a good thing! But what about "going green" for God?
Now, before you think that's lame, consider how polluted your life can become. How can the "Seed of Life" really grow in you and through when there's some >> Read More |

| S.W.O.T - 6/16/2009 |
If you've been around business or leadership development you've probably heard of the S.W.O.T. analysis tool. It's a great way to analyze and evaluate any organization or project. I try to incorporate it regularly in the organizations I'm associated with. As a matter of fact, this morning I had breakfast with a couple of guys and we did a S.W.O.T analysis of an organization they've been a part of for quite a while that I'm now overseeing.
Here's what S.W.O.T. helps you to identify... >> Read More |

| "Am I Not Merciful?" - 6/14/2009 |
If you've seen the move, "Gladiator", you recognize that line from Comodus as he speaks to his sister regarding taking her son away from her. "Am I not merciful?" Actually, he isn't merciful at all; he's a very bad dude! That's the thing, if you have to ask, "Am I not merciful," you're probably not!
Being merciful is NOT an act, it's BEING merciful. It's having the capacity to BE merciful. It's the power to judge, but the compassion to release and free. Mercy is the essence, a cha >> Read More |

| Blessed are the Merciful - 6/12/2009 |
As we continue this series on the Beatitudes at LHCB, the words of Jesus also continue to challenge and convict my life! When Jesus says, "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy" he is speaking to a crowd of people, despite their economic or class status, who were living under the oppression of the Romans. Their only hope is that they would have a king, a Messiah, who would overthrow the Romans.
The last thing they want to hear Jesus say is, "Blessed are the merciful!" >> Read More |

Most of you will recognize the "title" abbreviations of this blog as "text speak!" BFF- "Best Friends Forever!" LOL- "Laugh Out Loud!" JK- "Just Kidding!" OMG- "Oh My God!" I only know these because 1) My daughter has explained them to me, etc., and 2) Texting is a major way by which my daughter communicates with me!
I've personally invented some of my own, like: HBO- "Humble Broadwater Opinion", CRAP- "Churchy Religion And Politics" (that may offend a few people, sorry!), and PD >> Read More |

| Check Up from the Neck Up - 6/10/2009 |
Last night Kobe Bryant had an incredible first half of basketball, but such a great second half. Lakers lost (personal yay!)! Today, sport's commentators were talking about Kobe having to do a "check up from the neck up" so he can get his mindset right for the next game.
I've never really heard it put that way before, but I like it- a "check up from the neck up!" Periodically we all need to have one of those to ensure that our mind is healthy and strong. After all, as Proverbs says, >> Read More |

| Rearranging the Furniture - 6/9/2009 |
Growing up my mother was constantly rearranging the furniture in our house; especially the living room. You didn't want to try and go through the living room in the dark because the couch or chair might not be where it was the day before! Rearranging the furniture might have given the room a "new look" or "feel", but it was still the same room with the same four walls and the same entry ways!
Too many organizations, and especially churches, try to do a "new thing" by simply enhancing >> Read More |

| Training - 6/8/2009 |
Training! If you're going into the Army, you do "basic training!" Major League Baseball has "Spring Training." Today, my daughter begins her pre-season training for playing volleyball at UCONN. In the Bible, Paul talks about "going into training" just like the an Olympic runner. But he clarifies it by saying, he "trains to win!"
Training is essentially a preparatory aspect enabling you to be able to perform at an optimal level. Baseball players train during the early Spring so the >> Read More |

| A New Chapter - 6/6/2009 |
Several Blogs back I talked about how "last things" become the "first things" of a new season in life! The new season becomes the new chapter if you will that will detail your life for however long that time frame may be. I'm seeing this happen right now with my daughter as she just finished her high school career and is now preparing for attending UCONN as a student athlete.
Yesterday while we were preparing for her graduation party, she was preparing for being a UCONN volleyball pla >> Read More |

| Follow Through - 6/5/2009 |
If execution is the art of getting things done, then "follow through" is the why things will get done! You can give two people the same opportunities, the same resources, and the same support in every other respect; one will succeed and the other will fail simply because the successful person followed through and the unsuccessful person did not! You can have all the "want to" in the world, but following through on your priorities, action items, goals, etc. is the key.

| Graduation Day and My Top Ten List! - 6/4/2009 |
Well, this is it! The last of our three children, Cayla, will graduate high school this evening. Twelve years of classes and sport's events will come to a close and a new chapter will begin on August 9th, when she reports to UCONN to begin her collegiate experience as a Sport's Management major on a full-athletic scholarship for volleyball. As I reflect on the past twelve years, here's my Top Ten List of things I'll remember and consider important:

| Baccalaurete 2009 - 6/3/2009 |
Tonight I had the privilege of speaking at my daughter's baccalaurete service. I was pleased at the conclusion when so many people genuinely expressed how much they appreciated, and connected with the thoughts. My assignment was to essentially talk about "anticipating the future", which to me is all about vision and mission!
Vision is being able to identify your purpose in the world and mission is your plan to implement living out your purpose very intentionally. Vision and purpose i >> Read More |

| Destiny - 6/1/2009 |
Destiny? Some people define destiny as "fate." In other words, no matter what you do what's going to happen to you, or what your life is going to be has already been determined and you can't do a thing about it. Others say destiny is exactly what you make it to be- you choose, you plan, you follow through, and that's your destiny.
I think destiny is somewhere in the middle of those two extremes. It's a combination of both the life God has planned for us AND the choices we make along >> Read More |
