The Sweetest Melody is the One We Haven't Heard! Date Posted:10/1/2009 | "Every generation gets a chance to change the world. Pity the nation that won't listen to your boys and girls'. Cause the sweetest melody is the one we haven't heard. Is it true that perfect love drives out all fear? The right to appear ridiculous is something I hold dear. Oh, but a change of heart comes slow..." "I'll Go Crazy If I Don't go Crazy Tonight" by U2. Sounds like something we need to listen to...
Wow, here's U2, a rock band, world famous, singing something pretty profound that everyone of us should sit up and pay big-time attention to! Regrettably, "nations" don't seem to pay too much attention to the next generation and the potential they have to "change" the world. Worse yet is the religious institution (I purposefully don't use the term "Church" here because the "Church" would represent that which Jesus Christ is building- a framework of reconciled people back to God, in relationship with Jesus Christ, following His pattern as truly devoted disciples, built on the foundation of His ultimate sacrifice, which is NOT what the religious institutions of our day are about!), that seems to focus so much of it's attention and resource on maintaining the machinery, defending the status quo, and putting to death anything and anyone that offers the opportunity of a "better way"- Gee, isn't that what got Jesus killed... interesting...
Judges 2:10 says, "There arose a generation that did not know the Lord and did evil..." Those naughty, naughty kids! No, it's more like those lazy, irresponsible, selfish parents, who apparently not only modeled true and decent morality to their children, but more than likely did everything conceivable to snuff out anything they endeavored to do that was not the norm! Why is it that the current generation always seems to what to only take care of themselves, securing their own lives, and subsequently only passing on to the next generation anything and everything that will make it harder for them to truly thrive. Good grief, practice of government teaches us that this is all too true. And if the government is guilty of this type of travesty, how absolutely heinous it is for those who profess Christianity to do the same?
The fact is, the only hope any society, culture, or nation ever has, is the next generation! When given the opportunity, they bring a fresh, energetic, creative, sometimes even crazy ideology to the forefront that is desperately needed. When the emerging generation is not only embraced, but encouraged to "go for it", it not only empowers them to truly live, but gives the transitional generation the satisfaction of setting them up for success!
Consider Saul, he wanted to "slay" David (1 Sam. 18). Consider David later on, he "set" Solomon up for success (2 Sam. 7)! What about you? Me? I'm committed to modeling David's attitude, which means I not only need to set up the next generation for success, but I need to get out of their way when they start to run with the revelation, being perfectly content to be their biggest fan! IF, IF, If, we really "LOVE" the next generation, then all our fears will driven away!
