Transition Thoughts 4 Date Posted:9/1/2009 | Let's review: transitions are an evolutionary process, emotionally challenging, and educational opportunities. Transitions are also eventful! What I mean by that is this- as you journey through the transition stage from one season of life (already lived) into the next season of life (not yet lived), you begin to recognize the moments that become key "events" in the process.
Look at David's life in the Bible. As he transitioned from bear and lion killer to giant slayer he was 1) sent to the "battle" with some food for his brothers (big event!), 2) had an audience with the king about the situation, even thought he was just a "kid" (big event!), 3) turned down the king's armor for his trusty slingshot (big decision and event!), and 4) relied on past experiences/victories to gain confidence for taking on and overcoming new challenges (big event!).
We may not always appreciate the "moment" in the transitional stage where something or some person we encounter or some decision we make ultimately has significant impact on our lives; i.e. a "big event!" But over time we begin to realize just how significant that something or that someone really was in literally being a major stepping stone, if not a launching pad down the path towards and into the next season of life. Many times you encounter such "big events" in the Old Testament that propelled people into a new season of life and experience. I've already mentioned David, but you could certainly draw similar conclusions from Abraham (willing to sacrifice his son- big event!), Moses (the burning bush encounter- big event!), Elisha (burning thee plowing equipment (big event), and many others.
Sure, transitions are not convenient, and oftentimes you feel like you're going nowhere fast, or your stuck in some dark and dreary place where you know you can't go back, but you're not exactly seeing ahead either... but don't miss the "moments" of that something or that someone or that decision or that situation that is an "event" that will be significant in transitioning you into the new season God has ordained for your life! | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | September 1, 2009 | | |
