Transition Thoughts 3 Date Posted:8/27/2009 | Okay, so far I've talked about transitions being 1) an evolutionary process of adaptation, and 2) emotionally challenging as you reflect and refocus. Here's #3:
Transitions are educational opportunities! Really, anyone who isn't in a constant state of learning isn't growing! Life in general, in the every day and every way aspects, produces all kinds of opportunities to learn something new and experience ongoing maturation. But transitions are especially great learning experiences.
Because a "transition" is the "space" between two seasons of life- one you've already lived and one that you are on the verge of entering, it's the perfect setup for discovering new aspects of life and/or all kinds of new possibilities! Sure, you can "miss" the old season and the people and places, etc that it consisted of; and as awesome as it may have been, it's "past"- you've already been there and done that. But, you haven't yet been to where you are going! The key question is, will you seize the opportunity to search out new avenues and aspects of life?
People who refuse to embrace, or at the very least, explore the opportunities to experience life is some new and potentially exciting ways, really cease to actively live. They're like "dead men walking!" Truth is, "change is growth" (physicians often describe someone who is "deceased" as "they have ceased to change)! Changes in life require a willingness to learn, to discover new possibilities, to even dare to dream some crazy, yet perfectly appropriate avenues of living- maybe go back to college, or start a new business, or coach a sport's team, or, if like me, you find yourself as an "emptynester", sell everything you own and buy an RV and go on the road (really that's a joke)!
In any respect, if you are in a transition or about to transition, are you jumping at the opportunity to experience some new facets of life; and even more so, are you willing to be educated, to learn about and grow into some new places, with some new people, and some new, maybe even crazy possibilities?!? | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | August 27, 2009 | | |
