Love and Let Go
Date Posted:8/11/2009
Well it's been a few weeks since I actually blogged something, and for the two or three of you who actually read my blog, I hope you survived without it! Some people have suggested that you don't know how good something is until it's gone! I'm not sure this really applies to my blog, but it certainly does apply to so many other things in life.

As a couple of the few of you that read my blog may know, my daughter left for college last week and man do I miss her! And from my conversations with her, I think she really does miss me too. That's the thing about relationships though, you really don't understand how much you love and appreciate someone until they're no longer around. I experienced this when I left for college back in the day. Jo Ann and I had been dating since 11th grade and it wasn't until we were actually separated for the first time that I realized how much I loved her and wanted to spend the rest of my life with her (I'm pretty sure she felt the same way)! Absence does make the heart feel fonder!

Because I know my daughter is where she's supposed to be, doing what she's supposed to be doing, it significantly helps to ease the emotions of being apart. After all, it's now her turn to experience the journey of becoming an adult, making adult decisions, and living life as an adult. We're both "letting go" in many ways, while at the same time, discovering the core things that you will always hold onto.

So, with the above in mind, here's a few things I've learned about how "love and let go!"

1) When the person "moving on" is on the right path, you can celebrate it rather than cry about it!

2) You can let them go because you care more about their needs than your own!

3) It's a very natural part of the maturing process, especially when it's your son or daughter, in regards to raising, resourcing, and releasing them!

4) True relationship is never constricted by separation; only reinforced!

5) Letting go is a process that involves preparation and post-follow up!
